Journalistic hazards

I deal with journalists frequently. They are often a cause of professional frustration. But it can be a tough job. Especially when your screw ups are very public, and live. Like these.

Incredible Apple

Apple launched some good stuff this week. Like iTunes 9. And new iPods, with cameras. But don’t let me tell you how good they are. Let them – at their launch…

Someone needs a speechwriter…

What’s in the box

This guy sounds nice, but he’s pretty silly.

The biggest problem with this whole argument is that Christians don’t believe God is out there needing to be defined, we believe he revealed himself to us by his presence, his son, and his word.

His whole argument against theism is fallacious.

His conclusion about how Christians should act is on the money though.

YouTube Tuesday: Kanye do this?

The second PR lesson we can learn from celebrities is courtesy of Kanye’s now infamous crashing of the stage at the MTV Awards. Stupid thing to do really.

The silver lining came from Beyonce – who Kanye was advocating for – when she showed how to act with grace, and class, and brought Taylor Swift back on stage.

And now, Kanye has gone “viral” with spoofs already happening.

YouTube Tuesday: God’s Top Guns

Worst. Ministry. Commercial. Ever.

Subtitled hymns

I post this without editorial, for your viewing pleasure.

Actually, I posted it without seeing the thumbnail frame. It’s a bit rude. Here’s the link to the video.

Here’s a new fangled version…

Franky does acrobatics

Turtles are the best pets. They’re funny. Clean. And they do cool stuff. Like this. Most of the fun finishes about halfway into this video. But it’s only 48 seconds.

Pieces of eight bit

This video is rightly being hailed as the best lego stop motion 8-bit tribute of all time.

It’s a pretty small pool I guess – but all the typical post fodder is included – Pacman, Mario and Tetris make an appearance…

Under the hood

If you’re a Christian and you want to evangelise and you need convincing that being loving is the best to achieve this outcome then you need to watch this interview that Denton did with a former leader of the Klan.

If you’re either not a Christian, or already convinced that speaking the truth with love is already the way to go, then you should watch the video too…

I am fascinated by the fact that both Denton and BoingBoing (where I found it) push the guy in question’s courage when the thing that strikes me is his love for his enemies.

YouTube Tuesday: Teenage Mutant Cyborg Turtle

Ninja Turtles have all the fun.

I’ve been tracking the story of Simone and her frisky dog. If you haven’t been – then you should. She took him to the vet the other day. The same day we sent our little Rosie to the vet for the first time. I’d never sent an animal to the vet before, but I think it was the most expensive five minutes of my life – and I wasn’t there. We sent her with my in-laws.

The vet told them that we’d already cured said turtle of her fungal infection by the power of betadine. Hooray for us. And then he charged us $50.

This little turtle had significantly greater problems… he lost his legs, so they replaced them with little plastic bits that slide along the floor.

Bumbling Awesomeness

This is quite literally the best fancy dress outfit ever. I say that with confidence because like Warren the word over use watchdog – I hate it when the word literally is abused.

Check it out.

St. Eutychus around the web

Turns out the Catholics already have a saint named Eutychus. I’m not sure it’s the same guy.

But there is a great little song about Eutychus on YouTube – skip to about a minute forty five in for the good bit.

Alternatively, watch it in lego…

Talkin’ bout a revolution

This video has been doing the rounds – on the fountainside, Communicate Jesus, and Dave Mier’s excellent blog. Blogs by Moore College students have a tendency to be pretty good. Anyway. It’s worth reposting here.

There are big lessons to be learned here for anybody in PR and anybody trying to sell, promote or communicate any message. Any communication strategy without a social networking strategy is pretty rubbish. Unless you’re targeting the geriatric market (which when the baby boomers become geriatrics will be a massive market. The biggest in fact.)

There’s an interesting little comment in the video that essentially says social networking is more popular than porn. Which will have interesting implications for the way technology is developed. Because if there’s one thing I learned at uni it’s that communication technology is driven by demand from the adult industry.

The song also has the most overused and hackneyed soundtrack for this sort of video – the “Right Here, Right Now” song.

Pass the pigs

The Japanese are responsible for a lot of great television. This isn’t one of those moments. Pig rodeos. What will they think of next.

YouTube Tuesday: Super Mario Bros – Directors Cut

If only the original (and terrible) Mario movie had production values like this. It’s not really a director’s cut – but I imagine the director of the original would have cut the whole lot with the benefit of hindsight.
