Ten of their best

Here are my ten favourite assumptions, insults, and accusations thrown at me by PZ Myer’s angry horde.

  1. That I chose to use the word “seem” in the title because I don’t think atheists are capable of being nice.
  2. That the “curiosities” column creates revenue for me/is advertising and I wrote this post in order to receive the attention I did.
  3. That I would censor comments, or that I was doing so, because I was scared of criticism.
  4. That I would hatch a conspiracy theory regarding my site’s demise and blame atheist hackers.
  5. That no Christian has ever read anything about the formation of the Bible or church history and that we are completely unaware of criticism of that process.
  6. That noise = victory and silence = an admission of defeat.
  7. That if God exists human morality should still trump morality as ordained by God.
  8. That just because they’ve given a name to a school of thought… and their philosophical leaders have rebutted it… everyone should fall into line and stop using arguments they disagree with.
  9. That no Christian knows how to use the Old Testament, or deal with difficult philosophical positions created by a God society does not agree with.
  10. That atheist scholarship regarding the Bible and Christianity is more objective than Christian or independent scholarship.

Horde not hoard…

Here was me thinking that you’d had a nice relaxing holiday so you wanted to kick start your brain by picking a massive fight…

Also: on the curiosities column – like it a lot but you need a bit more added, because that poo can is starting to disturb me and gets funny looks at work…

I have an addiction with these … right now obviously

Nathan says:

“Horde not hoard…”

Indeed. Though I blame the gastro.

Nathan says:

“a supply or fund stored up and often hidden away”

Though that could equally apply.

Stephen says:

Aw, you missed many good ones, like “You’re evil, but I won’t explain to you why because you lack the intellectual ability to understand, and you’re evil”.

Leah says:

It’s comments like that that make me not want to even both with atheists like that. I tend to think, if someone is so very stupid as to believe Christians don’t know what to do with the OT, or know nothing about the formation of the bible, chances are they’ll be too stupid (or purposely ignorant) to come up with intelligent and legitimate answers.

(NB: For any atheists reading this comment, I’m not saying ALL atheists are like that. Just the ones that make the comments Nathan listed.)

This bs actually made it into the Google News search, so I had to write about it. Enjoy:

PS. Do you think when the Japanese were being melted into the sidewalk during their abrupt end of WWII that they cared what God we believed in? Atheists like to blame Religion for anything bad that’s happened in history and tell us all about how cool Science is. Somehow I think those Japanese might see it a bit differently. Go go Science!

Nathan says:

HI MC,

Love the post.

Where do I find this on Google News?

David says:

“Five things that would make me care what an Atheist thinks.” — don’t say you weren’t tempted!

AndrewF says:

#10 irks me so much. It’s so often the way when an apparent contradiction or objectionable passage is highlighted. Proper exegesis is applied and shown to resolve the problem and then one gets accused of being ‘slippery’. There is always an assumption that their interpretation is the right one and they cannot be corrected.

What do you mean by #8?

Nathan says:

@Andrew – 8 refers to the fact that the atheist posterboys have publicly critiqued stuff like pascal’s wager so now if you use any thing that sounds like it they claim your argument has been discredited and is of no value. That’s just one example.

In the Google News, there’s a Spotlight article section. PZ Myers’ post Advice for atheists? was there, then in that post is a link to yours.
