First Person Umbrella

Sick and tired of the great unwashed. Tired of slow walkers. Or worse, public smokers… well. Use this umbrella, and your imagination, to blow them away.

Umbrella for Urban Combat

From the blurb on Flickr.

“Around Harvard you can tell the MBAs in the rain because they’re the ones with the giant umbrellas. Those are are nice about it raise their umbrella and generally play well with others on the sidewalk. The jerks are the ones who barge through the city hitting the umbrellas of others at will.

It’s because of them that I’ve invented the Urban Combat Umbrella which lets you exact virtual revenge by putting them in your sights and making shooting noises until you heart’s content.”

The times, they are a-chaining…

You can buy this clock, which is a pretty cool fixture if you want to make a hipster friendly cafe, or just be awesome.

Reversed vegetable bowls make eating salad fun

I like these “reversed volume” bowls.

Here’s a fennel bowl incongruously placed next to an apple.

And some more bowls…

Possibly the apple is for scaling issues…

Sadly the coffee bowl appears to no longer be for sale.

Like the moon? How bout a mattress/pillow combo

If, like me, you like the moon… though possibly not as much as these guys:

Then you should throw out your bed, and your pillows, and get one of these glow in the dark monstrosities and get up close and personal with your own personal moons.

Like the moon it glows at night, so it will keep you tide. Get it. Because the moon makes the tides happen… the patterns on the pillow are based on a hi-res composite of moon photography. So it’s as close to the real deal as you’ll get unless you’re an astronaut. And even then you’ll only get as far as a desert in Texas.

Rubbish Style: Peg bins are brilliant

I don’t like bins. The pedals always break. You have to empty them. They stink. I think this sort of thing might take up less space and have me emptying the rubbish more often. But who knows.

Social Media Propaganda: Because the Internet needs you

The social media war is heating up. Soon Google Plus, Facebook, and Twitter will be doing just about anything to get you on board. I’m on all three. And I’ve got to say, for the record, that the number of conversations on each platform about the other platforms is getting a little out of hand.

Anyway. These posters might help you decide.

They’re for sale as posters on Etsy.

Zombie Bowling Balls (Can not be unseen)

Wow. These are part disturbing part, well, disturbing. Zombie themed ten pin bowling balls. Smash some heads with pins. Perfect practice for the Zompocalypse.

More pictures here. Some of them are a little disturbing.

Ideas I wish I’d had: Canned air from exotic locations

Exhibit A. Canned Air from Prague.

It’s more compelling with a black background. Right?

Make your notes a chip off the old block

There’s some sort of post joke to be made here. But I’ve got nothing.

This would be cool if it was a chunk of wood with something really sharp to cut slithers off. Like a laser. But it’s not.

You can buy them though, via Lushlee

Light reading: Five books repurposed as lights

I love books. Physical books. I like reading on my kindle, and even more on my iPad. But the tactile experience of a book, and the visual thrill of a well-stocked set of shelves will keep me heading to second hand bookshops, the book depository, and whatever physical bookshop is still solvent after this year.

Turning books into lamps is now old hat. Well. I saw these ones a while ago. I meant to post them, but then I forgot. The light comes on when the book is opened.

There’s a how to, including a video, here.

I love these ones for the steampunk bulbs. I can’t imagine they’d be cheap to replace if you kicked a soccer ball, or a shoe, or some sort of miscellaneous projectile into it.

These are available on Etsy.

This one, from Suck UK is a lamp/bookmark combo.

And here’s another that has a little more spine… each lamp uses a single book.

But for something a little more classy, you could always have a crack at putting together a book chandelier (or just buy one for 440GBP).

Graphiti: Get your pie chart on with this graffiti stencil

Want to make a political statement on the streets in the form of a pie chart? I know I do. Want to do it in regulated (and regulation) stencil style? Just download this handy PDF, grab some spray paint, and hit the streets.*

You’ll need:

  • 1/8″ (3mm) thick sheet material, suitable for lasercutting. I used MDF, but acrylic is fine.
  • A one-inch 1/4″-20 bolt, wing-nut and suitable pair of washers.
  • Scotch tape or masking tape (to hold the letter in the stencil)
  • 1 quart-capacity Ziploc bag (for storing the letters)
  • Spray paint
  • A laser cutter! (or a really steady hand and a sturdy knife)

*Actual hitting of streets and actual graffiti is neither endorsed or encouraged any reference to such behaviour is figurative and st-eutychus takes no responsibility for any consequences if you choose to enact said ideas literally.

Bury your head in this Ostrich Pillow

I want one. Or perhaps two. This, paired with a snuggy, is pretty much heaven on earth.

“OSTRICH offers a micro environment in which to take a warm and comfortable power nap at ease. It is neither a pillow nor a cushion, nor a bed, nor a garment, but a bit of each at the same time. Its soothing cave-like interior shelters and isolates our head and hands (mind, senses and body) for a few minutes, without needing to leave our desk.”

A swordid invention

For those parents who want to foster their children’s imagination on the cheap, who simultaneously don’t have any issues with children playing with violent toys, will join me in appreciating the simplicity of this invention which turns any stick into a sword.

Shoe nightlight: so you can catch people sneaking around

These are just a little bit cool. The laces are the power cords.

Magical “cut chair” not just a chip off the old block

I would like six of these please.

Pretty clever. Here’s how it works (sorry to spoil the illusion).
